Big tour in Georgia What we will see:
On a leisurely walk, we will be enchanted by the original architecture and iconic sights of the legendary historical center, learn more than 1500 years of history of the Georgian capital, combining myths and facts. Persians, Byzantines, Ottomans, the Russian Empire, the Soviet era - everyone left a particle in this exotic city. In Avlabari, the oldest district of Dzveli Tbilisi, the place where the palace of Georgian kings used to be, we can see the ruins of the Isani tower (at the very beginning of the district). To the left of the Metekhi bridge is the Metekhi temple (Church of the Assumption of Our Lady), built in the 13th century at the direction of King Demeter II the Self-Sacrifice. An unusual example of cross-domed Georgian church architecture, illustrating the legendary and tragic pages of history, was part of the royal residence. In front of the temple is a bronze monument to the founder of Tbilisi - Vakhtang Gorgasali, proudly sitting on a horse. Avlabari, once the abode of Armenian merchants, is today the site of the impressive Trinity Cathedral, known as Sameba. The main cathedral of the Georgian Orthodox Church, located on Elia Hill above the left bank of the Mtkvari, is the third largest Eastern Orthodox cathedral in the world, built on donations from citizens and wealthy businessmen. The temple complex includes a cathedral, a bell tower, the residence of the Catholicos-Patriarch, a monastery, a theological seminary and a theological academy. Breathtaking views of the city and the Mtkvari River, taking the cable car to the top of the Sololaki hill, dotted with colorful houses, to the ruins of the “Impregnable Fortress” (Narikala), founded in the 4th century by the Persians. Old houses on a rock, romantic atmosphere, relaxing sounds of a waterfall… Legvtakhevi Gorge (Fig Gorge) with a tiny river Tsavkisitskali and an amazing waterfall, part of which is in the National Botanical Garden, and the other part in the Abanotubani quarter. Legvtakhevi is one of the oldest districts of Tbilisi, the name of which comes from fig trees (once a lot of them grew in this place). Bath quarter (Abanotubani), consisting of two streets, on the right - Botanicheskaya, on the left - Grishashvili. The main baths are located on Grishashvili, which is parallel to the embankment and separated from the Mtkvari River by traditional architect residential buildings with carved wooden and wrought iron balconies. Romantic streets in the very center of Old Tbilisi with colorful houses covered with vines and open courtyards - Sharden, Irakli 2, Shavteli, next to which a modern landmark is the pedestrian Peace Bridge connecting the two banks of Mtkvari.
